Per chi mi ha conosciuto dopo il 1996, deve essere difficile da immaginare. Anche chi mi conosce da prima potrebbe far fatica a ricordarselo. Perchè, considerata la mia stazza e la mia proverbiale pigrizia, è difficile credere che per 6 anni della mia vita io abbia fatto sport e anche parecchio.
Ho giocato a pallavolo per 3 volte a settimana (che diventavano 4 nella stagione dei campionati) esattamente dai 9 ai 15 anni. Ho cominciato sulle orme di Mimì (che non mi piaceva neanche un po'), di Mila (che mi stava un po' più simpatica) e di tutte le mie amiche che avevano occhi solo per la pallavolo, ma soprattutto ho cominciato perchè odiavo andare in piscina (ho il terrore di nuotare!). Non ho fatto faville agli esordi. Ero un elemento interessante per via della mia altezza e perchè, nello sport come nella vita, ero mossa da un forte senso del dovere e della dedizione.
Un po' alla volta, come le zucche, sono maturata sul campo. Ho cominciato ad avere più fiducia nelle mie capacità, ad espormi di più e a prendere l'iniziativa, grazie anche all'appoggio dell'allenatore giusto e della squadra perfetta. Dall'essere riserva, sono passata ad essere titolare e a dare un po' di soddisfazioni a mio papà che mi accompagnava su e giù per la provincia polesana, tutte le domeniche e ad orari improponibili. Mi ricordo che partivamo di mattina presto in silenzio per non svegliare mia sorella, mia mamma e la pulcetta neonato. Arrivavamo in palestre sfigate e puzzolenti, dopo esserci persi per la strada perchè non esistevano ancora i navigatori e poi, via: io in spogliatoio/ sul campo e lui sugli spalti. La mia ultima partita ufficiale è stata il 25 Aprile 1996, ma io non sapevo ancora che quella sarebbe stata la mia ultima partita. Due giorni dopo sarei andata all'ennesimo controllo cardiologico e un dottore fermamente burbero mi avrebbe comunicato che no, non me la sento più di darti l'idoneità al gioco agonistico: le tue aritmie ci sono e costituiscono una controindicazione alla pratica dello sport ad alto livello. La partita del 25 Aprile è stata la più bella partita della mia vita: quella è stata la mia giornata e io ancora non lo sapevo. Ho giocato da dio e ho sentito le parole più belle per un giocatore, dette dal mio allenatore alla palleggiatrice oggi non c'è storia: è Chiara che segna, quindi continua a far schiacciare lei. Non so cosa ci fosse nell'aria; non so se fosse scritto nel destino: quel giorno la palla era incantata. Bastava che io la toccassi e facevo punto. Mi ricordo l'entusiasmo, la soddisfazione e la fierezza di quella partita. E la felicità negli occhi del mio papà alla fine del match, quando salutavamo il pubblico, avevamo vinto e le avversarie guardavano con ammirazione-misto-odio proprio me, perchè io avevo fatto la differenza sul campo.
E' stato in quegli anni che ho visto giocare Vigor Bovolenta. Era un talento polesano e tutte noi delle serie cadette sognavamo per il nostro futuro una carriera in serie A, la nazionale e quelle schiacciate e quei muri che terrorizzavano gli avversari. Quando ho sentito che lui si è accasciato sul campo l'altro giorno e così si è spento, mi si è fermato per un istante il cuore. Della vita pallavolistica mi rimane una medaglietta d'oro con inciso il numero 11 (il mio numero di maglia), quella medaglietta che mi ha regalato mio papà il Natale successivo al mio ritiro a ricordo perenne di quel periodo della mia vita, di quell'entusiasmo, di quelle aspettative sul futuro. Di Vigor ricordo l'altezza, lo slancio e il rombo delle pallonate che tirava in palazzetto. Il mio pensiero va a lui e alla sua famiglia oggi, perchè si può davvero morire sul campo, sfortunatamente…
