Ventolina’s – 212
Sabato sera sono stata invitata a cena da Ventolina. Preciso che Ventolina è maschio, viene da Taiwan ed è PhD come me. Si fa chiamare Julien, per uno scherzo del destino. La sua prof di Inglese taiwanese gli assegnò questo nome quando ancora era piccino e da quel giorno lui si presenta al mondo dei non-taiwanesi con questo nome che sembra più francese che inglese. Io, Miss Bastian Contrario, mi rivolgo silenziosamente a lui con il soprannome di Ventolina (dal suo cognome, Fan appunto) e, apertamente, vis à vis, non lo chiamo proprio.
Sabato sera sono stata a cena da lui. Nè tovaglie nè tovaglioli, questo è chiaro. Piatto unico di riso, carne, verdura, mele e del curry che doveva esserci, ma io non ho sentito (e aggiungo, con un sospiro di sollievo, per fortuna). Poi, zuppa fredda di alghe e un qualche pesce che non saprei descrivere in nessun modo, se non dicendo che sapeva proprio di mare. Il tutto accompagnato da the, caldo e bevuto in quelle micro-tazzine, dalla capienza simile a quella di un cucchiaio, che si vedono alle cerimonie del the in Giappone. Per tutta la sera non ha fatto altro che versarmi the. E mi ha fatto notare che inspiegabilmente noi il the lo spezzettiamo, mentre il the vero sono quelle foglie che lui si è portato da Taiwan e che mette in infusione in una microteiera che fa parte dello stesso servizio delle microtazzine.
In tutto questo, mi ha resa partecipe della sua cultura, del suo mondo, delle sue tradizioni. Moltissime e molte volte davvero fuori dalla portata della mia comprensione (forse era anche colpa di tutto quel the, che ad un certo punto, ha cominciato a svegliare in me un irrefrenabile bisogno di plin plin…). Ad esempio, che quando una ragazza esce di casa per andarsi a sposare, il padre getta sulla soglia una caraffa d’acqua per simboleggiare che ciò che esce non torna più. L’acqua versata non può più tornare dentro la caraffa, così come la figlia cessa di far parte della sua famiglia per entrare nella famiglia del marito. Ventolina è felice, ma aspira a qualcosa di più. Non ho avuto il coraggio di chiederglielo, ma mi è sembrato che i suoi occhietti a mandorla si oscurassero un po’ a parlare dei suoi fratelli e delle sue sorelle che sono già sposati e stanno già accumulando soldi per il loro futuro e la loro famiglia. Ventolina ride di me perché torno in Italia una volta al mese. Lui rivedrà la sua famiglia la prossima estate, dopo circa 18 mesi dal suo ultimo ritorno a casa. Chissà, magari la prossima volta tornerà e sposerà la donna del suo karma, una graziosa Ventolina al femminile, mai vista prima, ma conosciuta su internet e perfetta per lui e la sua famiglia. Chissà, magari così sentirà che anche per lui la storia degli antenati si sta ripetendo e la ruota sta girando anche per lui.
